WiShare Africa’s story began with a vision five years ago to create a digital community that empowered young Sierra Leoneans through online certification programs, equipping them with remote work skills. However, the lack of reliable internet connectivity across the country hindered these ambitions. This shared dream of making a lasting impact brought us together as family friends.
Everything changed when we discovered a revolutionary technology that could transform Sierra Leone’s digital infrastructure. Realizing that this was the key to scaling our vision, Edward Kanneh Sr. introduced the technology to his son, Edward Jr., who quickly reached out to Maada and Nyakeh. Nyakeh, the diligent technologist, traveled 17 hours to Dallas, Texas, to meet the manufacturers and confirm the technology’s potential.
From there, the team spent months meticulously planning, crafting the vision for WiShare Africa. Day after day, we worked tirelessly, sometimes talking for 12 hours straight, fueled by our shared passion for revolutionizing digital access in Sierra Leone.
From that moment, we knew we had the solution to not only unlock remote work opportunities but to bring affordable, reliable internet access to underserved regions. In a pivotal meeting with the President of Sierra Leone, at the United Nations General Assembly we received encouragement to pursue our vision of digital transformation.
Now, as a united team, we have relocated to Sierra Leone, fully prepared to launch WiShare Africa and bring affordable, reliable internet to communities across the nation. Our journey is just beginning, and we are driven by the belief that we are on the path to creating a digitally connected future for Sierra Leone and beyond.
